I successfully passed my AWS AI Practitioner Exam this week and in this post, I will share parts of the process I took to prepare for this certification.

I am now an AWS Certified AI Practitioner!

I decided to take this exam when I attended the last AWS Sydney Summit in June this year. There are a few reasons why:

  1. I have been working with AI/ML solutions for roughly 18 months now. I have used multiple platforms such as IBM Watson, OpenAI and Anthropic, however, for the last 12 months, I have invested most of my time and effort on AWS, particularly AWS Bedrock.
  2. I genuinely wanted to deepen my knowledge of AI and I knew an exam like this would push me beyond my comfort zone
  3. At Triniti, we have a desire to become most organisation's AI trusted partner

The process

I literally walked out of AWS Summit feeling energised and ready to take on this challenge so when I got home, I booked the exam and gave myself 3 weeks to prepare. I knew my prior knowledge and hands-on experience designing and building GenAI platforms would help. With a quick ChatGPT prompt, I got a nice plan for the 3-week period that involved a mix of learning from Udemy courses, practicing exam questions with mock tests and some hands-on lab exercises.

Next steps

I am now considering taking on another exam to continue my journey of becoming a better AI practitioner: AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer. Even though this certification seems more technical than my day-to-day responsibilities as Co-Founder and CTO at Triniti, I believe it will significantly enhance the work we do. As we evaluate AI opportunities for the ventures we're building, having deeper knowledge of fine-tuning models becomes crucial. When we're architecting solutions for our clients and prompt engineering or RAGs don't deliver the results our needed, understanding the next level of technical implementation gives me the credibility and insight to guide strategic decisions. It's not just about knowing the technology exists - it's about knowing when and how to deploy it effectively in a business context.

The tech landscape changes fast. Staying certified keeps me sharp and ensures I'm building on solid foundations, not just riding the hype wave.
